In recent days, journalists and fans of superhero movies have been actively discussing the possible departure of Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Whether this means we’ll never see Tom Holland and the other Avengers acting together on the big screen again remains a mystery. In the meantime, we decided to get nostalgic and recall the best moments from the popular Marvel movies, as well as reveal some of the secrets of the filming process.
Uncomfortable costumes.
Tom Holland, who played Spider-Man, had to wear one of the most uncomfortable costumes on set. Taking off the mask was so difficult that the actor had to drink water through a tube that was inserted into the eye holes in between scenes. The mask the actor wore in his first movie as a superhero was so uncomfortable that it scratched Tom’s face and left bruises.
There are many scenes in the Spider-Man movies where Peter Parker easily takes off his superhero costume to show off his pumped abs. But in reality, the actor had to wear a knit suit, which was then cleaned up with a computer, and an uncomfortable thong under his clothes.
And in scenes where stunts had to be performed, the actor had to wear a special safety bandage under his costume. All the natural wrinkles in Spider-Man’s clothes then had to be removed with computer graphics.
Heavy Makeup
The new look of Chris Hemsworth’s character in the final part of “The Avengers” caused a storm of emotions. Unlike his colleagues on the set, whose costumes were largely created using computer graphics, Hemsworth was forced to wear a very realistic overhead belly, which weighed about 30 pounds.
And to complete the image, he was also inserted special extenders for his cheeks, so that the face on the screen seemed thicker.
Tricks
Many stunts were performed by the actors themselves, as long as it was not a threat to their health.
And shooting the most spectacular scenes are held in pavilions, where they can build any scenery. For example, part of the Washington Monument, on which in the film was supposed to climb Spider-Man.
Many scenes are shot against a green screen, and the actors don’t even know exactly where they are and who they are fighting. This is done not only to add computer graphics later, but also to prevent overly chatty actors from accidentally telling too much to journalists before the premiere of the film.
Doubles
The understudies are involved not only when you need to perform a difficult trick, but also in scenes where the hero moves through time and meets himself. For example, in the episode where the two Captain America’s fight each other, actor Chris Evans’ face was superimposed on the understudy’s face during editing.
Tom Holland often posts photos and videos from the Marvel set on his Instagram. One such video captures his understudy, Greg Townley, a professional stuntman and former member of the British national gymnastics team.
But the understudy of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bobby Holland Henton, performs almost all the stunts instead of the famous Australian actor not only in Marvel movies, but also in other films with Hemsworth, such as the film “Men in Black: International”.
Virtual Reality
The famous costume in which Spider-Man appears in “Avengers: Infinity War” does not even really exist, but was completely drawn by visual effects specialists. However, journalists believe that the production of such a fantastic costume in real life would have cost the filmmakers more than $ 16 million.
Despite the fact that Tom Holland spends most of the screen time in a mask, which is difficult to discern emotions of the actor, using special cameras mimicry actor recorded and combined with his computer character. And for the actor’s voice to sound plausible from under the mask, he had to say his lines through a scarf.
Iron Man (Robert Downey – Jr.) in the new movies about the team “Avengers” often wore on the set only part of the armor. Everything else was finished with computer graphics, using motion capture data and hand animation.
The image of the green Hulk played by Mark Ruffalo was completely created using computer technology. But even small details, such as Ruffalo’s stubble and white temples, were accurately copied and transferred to his computer character.
Even in ordinary scenes that could have been completely drawn on a computer, the actors had to star in special costumes that captured the movements to make their characters’ images more believable.
Fun on set.
All of the most emotional scenes during the filming of the final installment of “The Avengers” behind-the-scenes hid the actors’ laughter and smiles. Even at Tony Stark’s funeral, the superheroes found a reason to have fun.
And how many takes you have to do when almost any, even the most serious line can make the actors laugh.
Even though actors are forbidden to take pictures on the set, the young stars can’t help but take a joint picture with their film colleagues.
Serious and unflappable on the screen, but as soon as the camera turns off, they start laughing like children.
They are enemies only on the screen, but during the breaks they can talk sweetly, look at pictures and smile.
It’s hard to imagine how much fun and joy filming the Avengers movies brought to the entire crew.
On the set of which superhero movie would you like to be and which of the actors you would like to meet personally? Or maybe you’ve already met them, or at least gotten an autograph?
