21sep8:00 pmThe 2018 DocuWest Music Showcase FREE & Open to the Public : Modern Leisure, Briffaut, Lost Dog Ensemble

Event Details

FREE and Open to the Public, come join our celebration of music, books and documentary film with night two of our three night music showcase at Barfly, inside Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.
Hey, as Colorado’s only festival dedicated to non-narrative storytelling, we thought WTF, and added music so we could also be the state’s only fest to provide both! Oh, and as a festival dedicated to being inclusive to the community, our music showcase events are FREE to attend. Who knows, maybe your story will be covered by an attending musician, author, or filmmaker.

Modern Leisure is the music project of Casey Banker (Shady Elders, The Don’t and Be Carefuls). Over his career, Casey has shared the stage with Mazzy Star, The Lumineers, Wild Nothing, The Drums and DeVotchka. The songs of Modern Leisure weave personal stories of one man’s strange twenties – those insane, horrible and lovely experiences that make us who we are.

Briffaut is an electrified force bent on sharing the philosophy of feeling through music to the world of one’s and two’s who share their ears with their souls. Briffaut is Daniel James Eaton with the help of a revolving cast of talented and notable musicians that he has been honored to work with. Together they create sonic visions that hover in the spaces between classic templates such as Folk, Jazz, Blues and early Rock n’ Roll up to the more surreal genres of Progressive Rock, Kraut Rock and dreamy Psychedelia. We are explorers. If you approach us with an open mind and an open ear, you will be able to pronounce the band name in no time : )

Lost Dog Ensemble brings material from over three decades of the Tom Waits catalog. With David Dinsmore from Denver’s Judge Roughneck on vocals, Dave Willey from Hamster Theater on Accordion, Mark Raynes and Colin Bricker from Andy Monley on drums and guitar, Troy Thill from Fatty Jenkins, David Farrell from Shawn Waggoner’s group on upright bass, Monte Thorin on auxiliary percussion, and Al Scholl channelling Mark Ribot, all bring a love of the music of Tom Waits and personal approach, playing the music with a passion. Sewn together like a Jack Kerouac poem, this journey through the Tom Waits catalog promises to be an unforgettable and moving evening of music.
